Last Sunday Deborah was so kind as to lead our birding expedition (2 cars, 4 photographers) to sites she frequents at the Colusa National Wildlife Refuge and the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge that she might have converted me to a wanna be birder. Never thought birding would be so much fun finding and photographing different species of birds in their natural habitats. The snow geese taking off in flight by the hundreds was a sight to see and astoundingly, the sound to hear (almost like a jet engine taking off).
Having so much fun takes energy so by 12:30 p.m. we were famished and Deborah led us to a well known restaurant in Williams, CA where the Colusa National Wildlife Refuge is located. Small town feel but big time place to go when you’re there. Granzella’s was very cozy with a fireplace and the food was satisfying; just the place to get warm from the nippy temperatures outside. I took these door shots with my cellphone so they are not framed or cropped well.
Follow the signs.
Nope, still no entry here, no doorknob:
I think this is the door; nope, still no doorknob:
This is it!
This was the restaurant but they had a deli, ice cream shop, wine shop and gift shop in this building established in 1976.
Coincidentally, across the street I noticed that Granzella’s had a gourmet and gift shop and administrative offices.
Well, Williams seems like a good place for a doorscursion (more than Granzella’s here) and it has a good touch of Americana (like the photo we set out to catch and actually captured on the expedition).
Thanks for visiting my blog and thanks to Norm 2.0 for his Thursday Doors blog. For more blogs and photos of doors by others please go to: Thursday Doors.
I really like the color combination on these. If you’re going to get into birding you better start saving for those fancy-pants telephoto lenses.

Thanks Norm. I already own a 300mm – 600mm zoom which I used for the eagle shot but if I had money to throw around I would get a better resolution zoom lens.

What a great post! When did you sneak away to get those door images, and the interior images of the restaurant/deli?
Your Bald Eagle came out really well!
You mean my job isn’t done? You’re not converted? Say it ain’t so!!! 🙂
I’m ready for another cup of Granzella’s minestrone, and more birding. Now if only the weather would cooperate.

Thanks so much Deborah! I shot the doors when you guys washed up after lunch. I had so much fun birding that I’m ready to go again; I do have to get a birding book so I know what I shot but you’re my birding manual for now. With the cold weather, Granzella’s after birding is my kind of place. Looking forward to the next expedition.

Well, heading south there are two refuges I frequent, and I know a pretty great hamburger joint that serves up a killer Guacamole burger, and yummy french fries…and they still do car service like the old days. 🙂

The doors are pretty cool, but that Eagle is magnificent!

Thank you Dan, my first wild eagle shot! Credit goes to Deborah for leading us to his tree.

I agree with Dan. Great doors, even better eagle. I’m jealous that you and Deborah have not only met/know each other, but get to go where there are all these great birds. 🙂

Thanks Janet. Deborah and I shoot in some mutual photography meetup groups and she is not only a great photographer but she also is a good instructor of the arts. She spoke of birding so I had to experience this activity and she has a way of getting you addicted to her interests; she was the one that got me (hooked) to post on Norm’s Thursday Doors and it looks like I might have to buy a bird manual soon to figure out what I’m shooting. 😉

You photography people and your perfect birds! Bah! I took a picture of a red-tail hawk on our basketball goal and it may as well be a chicken, lol! Anyway, awesome capture of eagle 🙂 Well done!
I love the journey of doors here, I think we’ve all encountered that sorta thing.

LOL, thanks Joey. If that hawk scored a basket your photo would be on the Sport’s front page.
