Smorgasbord

My apologies for missing the boat last week; my old Hawaiian roots of moving in Hawaiian Time (aka fashionably late) made me miss uploading my post by minuets (okay, I’ll be honest and say about an hour).  I had the post ready to go very late Friday night – Saturday early morning so I decided I would get up early and upload the post but things have a way of distracting you so when I finally got to uploading it was too late.

Here’s the boat I might have missed (a 3-masted ship at the Elsinore Shipyard near the Kronborg Castle in Denmark):

Back to business so our TD guest host, Joey, can just sit back and enjoy the TD minions getting their work uploaded, on a timely basis, to enjoy.  I still have doors for Copenhagen but I decided I’ll do a smorgasbord for you this week and move on, leaving other door remnants for a rainy day.

Our Danish apartment-owner host left us some information about shopping areas, places to see and restaurants in Copenhagen (I guess he forgot to list door locations).  One suggestion that he highlighted was a restaurant to have a Scandinavia Smorgasbord, a buffet of a variety of Scandinavian food, or another definition, a wide range of something; a variety.  Well, we didn’t get a chance to eat at the smorgasbord restaurant but I did have my doorscurions while doing my other photography so I’m treating you to a smorgasbord of doors, many taken during an evening walk after we had dinner along the canal.

This was a door from a building on the Kronborg Castle grounds.

They seem to like having their shops below grade so watch your step (no handrailing).

My guess is the sign is no parking as I don’t see any railroads near here:

Guess this beats a security cam:

Bon Appetite; hope you were satiated by the smorgasbord.

  1. Do many great doors today. I really like the heavy red arched door with the amazing lamp, the door with the arched shutters and the white door with the side light. They’re all good, but those jump out at me.

  2. Love the silvery reflection in one of these doors – the last one is beautiful. Also like the windows with the shutters! – it feels like Germany, only more modern! Was that Faerge Cafe a cellar? (when we lived in Berlin that seemed to be the cool thing back then). Now I have seen more of your photos , am beginning to recognize your style in photogragphy, only I don’t have a name for it:)
Random question: do you have jetlag when you go back and forth to Hawaii?

    1. Thanks, Jesh. Not sure of the Faerge Cafe as we did not venture into it; we already had dinner so it was some walking exercise to help the digestion and I took random shots of doors that I saw. Don’t know if I have a style of photography; I shoot many different subjects and if I were a dog I guess you’d call me a mutt – muttshots??

Regarding jetlag, sometimes I get a little jetlag going back to Hawaii but its usually because we take a morning flight and get there in 4-5 hours but the daylight savings time is 3 extra hours so when I sleep later that evening its actually 3 hrs extra time that I was awake. But in Hawaii, everything slows down so you just go with the flow.

      1. Some hotels in Holland had a smorgasbord style of breakfast – the Scandinavians eat so healthy!
Like you said of my painting style it was defined by light, I think your
style is by focusing on a specific mood of the place (no muttshots!)

That’s what I already thought (the jetlag). It’s unusual to think about an American state as being slower paced:)

  3. Wonderful doors and shutters. I really dig the propeller and the double red arched set — but they are all wonderful!

Island time started around noon here today in the landlocked city of Indianapolis, because LONG WEEKEND! I hope you enjoy yours 🙂

  4. Thanks, Joey! Enjoy your holiday weekend too! I read your blog today and the climate change reversed our climates. We are usually having cool weather during summer but we got some Indian Summer yesterday and the rest of the weekend. Temps hit 99 degrees in SF and my interior house temp hit 87 F before I had to get out in search of coolness (we do not have a/c). When I returned home in the late afternoon the interior temp was 90 F. I’ll be sweating this weekend out!

  5. So many interesting doors (I’ve never seen one with a propeller before 🙂 ), but I love the photo of the red arched doors with the light in the foreground. Not only are the great doors, but you nailed the composition 🙂
