Gamla Stan Entrances

In Stockholm, Sweden, a must place to visit for tourists is the Old Town, known as Gamla Stan.  We visited Gamla Stan in 2012, our first visit to Sweden, and found it enchanting with great picturesque buildings, shops, restaurants and alleyways so on our recent tour to Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Russia we revisited Gamla Stan during our stop in Stockholm while the other members of the tour took in some other places we had already seen.  Back in 2012 I recall huge crowds of tourists but there were fewer people this time which made it better to take photos of some doors.

According to Wikipedia, “the town dates back to the 13th century, and consists of medieval alleyways, cobblestone streets, and archaic architecture.  North German architecture has had a strong influence in the Old Town’s construction.”  I can attest to this description because I walked the cobblestone streets and photographed many interesting alleyways and ancient buildings.  The history of this town is too long for my short post so I’m putting the Wikipedia link here in case you’re interested in reading more about it:  Gamla Stan

So, here are some doors of Gamla Stan:

This alleyway is depicted in Wikipedia and in 2012, I shot the same photo minus all the graffiti (it’s in my archives somewhere).

    1. Thank you; one door is all you need but your memories of Stockholm are what counts. I got caught in a thunder and lightning storm during our visit in 2013 and got some dramatic images with storm clouds. Thanks for sharing your photos; I remember some of those places, too.
