The un”finish”ed blog from last week continues. Helsinki was a nice city and I learned that they shared their border with Russia as well as sharing the Cyrillic alphabet; sometimes people from small islands (like Hawaii) don’t pay much attention to geography because we never dreamed of traveling to other countries but, we live and learn.
My doorscurion started out around the Hotel Grand Marina because we were scheduled to depart for Russia the next morning and there was no time to explore other parts of the city.
We were near the marina and the sign I saw explained that we were in the Port of Helsinki, surrounded by old brick buildings that were renovated and re-purposed.
Behind the building in the photo above was a parking lot with a puzzling wall painting; must be a Finnish inside joke or something.
Not enough time to decipher this wall art cause I had doors to find so I followed the trail.
And this what I found.
Doors in this old brick building (2 perspectives).
Another door (2 perspectives, again).
More brick and a door to a dancing school.
Not sure what was behind this door.
Interesting door and hardware.
And a door to some kind of Asian restaurant.
As I passed the Helsinki Skywheel next to the open pool,
I was able to shoot a panoramic view of the marina (open pool on the left, tall church dome in the background and the President’s residence in the building to the right with the columns.
So this “finishes” the doorscursion in Helsinki, Finland.
Thanks for visiting my post and thanks to Norm 2.0 for his creation of the Thursday Doors website. For more posts and photos of doors by others please go to: Thursday Doors.
Gorgeous collection! I love the skywheel photo, such a mood on that shot. Also, really fond of the yellow house centered between streets and tracks. Great photo! But above all, great doors. Lots of yellow stuff under blue skies. I likey.

You might have had limited time available, but you managed to get some great photos. My favourite is the building at the beginning of the gallery with the rounded tower. Love, love, love it!

Thank you so much, Joanne! Old brick buildings that have undergone some refinishing are gems; I had fun on my solo doorscursion so my vision just had a field day without worrying about someone waiting for me to finish.

That’s why I normally go out alone, although my hiking partner often notices things that I hadn’t.

You sure did make good use of your time for your doorscursion! I really liked those doors with the spider web accents, and the arched doors.

Thank you, Deborah! Funny thing is I didn’t notice the spiderweb accents until I posted this blog so it was a happy disvovery. When we travel, I always enjoy having some time to myself to explore and see compositions that people never notice so it may cost me to tell the wife to go shopping but I get the freebies in some photo finds. 😊
