Helsinki, Part 2

The un”finish”ed blog from last week continues.  Helsinki was a nice city and I learned that they shared their border with Russia as well as sharing the Cyrillic alphabet; sometimes people from small islands (like Hawaii) don’t pay much attention to geography because we never dreamed of traveling to other countries but, we live and learn.

My doorscurion started out around the Hotel Grand Marina because we were scheduled to depart for Russia the next morning and there was no time to explore other parts of the city.

We were near the marina and the sign I saw explained that we were in the Port of Helsinki, surrounded by old brick buildings that were renovated and re-purposed.

Behind the building in the photo above was a parking lot with a puzzling wall painting; must be a Finnish inside joke or something.

Not enough time to decipher this wall art cause I had doors to find so I followed the trail.

And this what I found.

More brick and a door to a dancing school.

Not sure what was behind this door.

Interesting door and hardware.

And a door to some kind of Asian restaurant.

As I passed the Helsinki Skywheel next to the open pool,

I was able to shoot a panoramic view of the marina (open pool on the left, tall church dome in the background and the President’s residence in the building to the right with the columns.

So this “finishes” the doorscursion in Helsinki, Finland.
