A Place of Retreat

Last month, my wife and I explored the back roads of the Waianae town on the westside of Oahu, Hawaii.  Our exploration for majestic mountain scenery took us past the Kahumana Organic Farm Cafe and Retreat Center, a place well hidden for refuge.  Curious about what this place was and seeing some wooden building behind a stone wall end gravel entrance we decided to drive in to inquire what this place was.

The cafe was closed that day but the owner or manager was in the kitchen and came out to see who was outside so naturally I inquired about this place, their cafe and presented that passkey phrase, “I do blogs about doors on a website called Thursday Doors, and would you mind if we looked around and could I photograph some of your doors?”  Taking photos of doors gets you some weird looks but often gets you that free pass to take door photos so it works for me.  I found out that they have a few acres and several buildings which are rented to individuals but most often for groups holding retreats.  On the day we visited, a group of yoga enthusiasts were staying at the retreat.  I googled this place and found an article about the place:  Kahumana Organic Farm Cafe

So here are photos as we entered the Retreat Center grounds:

The first door that caught my eye in addition to the interesting wooden buildings.

The building looks like something in the Hobbit’s Middle Earth story or something from Southeast Asia.

The entry sign above the door below said, “Aloha”.

Double doors on this building.  Some other buildings were hidden by the landscape foliage so I didn’t get any good shots of them and I didn’t want to disturb the guests.

And lastly, a shot of the Waianae Mountain Range that we were exploring the countryside for.  This range was behind a perimeter chain-linked fence guarding the Navy’s Radio facility.
