Well, I’m late in posting this week so I’m rushing to get this post up before Norm closes the door for this week.
Last Saturday, we revisited Matanzas Creek Winery for a planned meetup and this time, our organizer arranged to have dramatic clouds follow us throughout the day. What a difference this makes!
After the Matanzas event my passenger and I decided to go to the Luther Burbank House and Gardens; Deborah suggested this location but at the last moment took ill and couldn’t join us so we missed her on this shoot. Luther Burbank was a famous horticulturist that made his home and gardens in Santa Rosa, CA (I have to admit that I didn’t know the guy and had no idea what he did until I got to the historic home and gardens). Since I’m rushing against time I’m just going to post a few photos and maybe come back to this posting to add to it later.
This photo was a similar composition of the building I shot at the Matanzas Creek Winery in my “Vine Country” post but you can see what dramatic clouds will do for your photos (the photo was processed as a HDR image).
This second photo was an image of the lavender garden at the Matanzas Creek Winery that shows the lavender stating to bloom but we were still early for the bloom.
This is the Luther Burbank information at his home.
A photo of the LB house and surrounding garden.
The LB Seed House extension to the Carriage House with a proportional door.
And since time is almost out, a photo of the LB Green House with its door.
Sorry for the rush job this week but please visit Norm’s Thursday Doors site to see more timely posted door images. Thanks for visiting my blog and thanks to Norm 2.0 for his creation of the Thursday Doors blog. For more blogs and photos of doors by others please go to: Thursday Doors.
Those clouds are stunning, as is the composition in the photos. I love the weathered barn and the carriage house doors. Glad you got this one in.

Thank you, Dan. Sometimes, you just don’t know where all the time goes (one of the complaints about retirement but this complaint is something I can live with).

I really like that little seed room/carriage house, and that Green House! I love the shape of it and the brick foundation/retaining walls.
Wow, that sky was dramatic! It would be lovely to go back when the lavender is in bloom. I’ve got this winery on my list since I missed seeing it with you and B.

Thanks, Deborah! Certainly missed you at the shoot and thanks so much for the LB House and Garden suggestion. I know the country backroads have a lot of great areas to photograph and I’m hoping to find more of them.

Oh greenhouse! And sky! 🙂

A dramatic sky really does enhance a photo. It’s so much better than the flat gray we so often have.
I love the seed house … a little mini version of its grownup sister beside it 🙂

Thank you, Joanne. Photographers always hope for dramatic clouds in most cases.

Considering it was a rush job, those photographs are fabulous, and that little seed house is a beauty. As for the dramatic cloud formations – there was me thinking you photo-shopped them.

Thanks, Jean. The clouds were dramatic throught the day; in some shots I did HDR (high dynamic range) processing because it was mid-day but the shot of the lavender field was shot with a polarizer and very minor Lightroom adjustments, in fact I used my polarizer on all shots.
